Sir Malcolm's decision to quit the race reduces the field to four candidates and so I've cleared the clutter from the post when he was still in the race and listed below is a fresh list of public declarations.
This list incorporates today's news that Michael Ancram (a Rifkind backer for all of four days) and Anne Milton have both declared for David Cameron.

MPs will vote on social issues as much as economic ones. Both Bernard Jenkin and Peter Lilley have socially liberal views and voting records. That may explain their support for David Cameron.

Peter, I obviously had a different edition of that day's Times, because Michael Lord was definitely at the bottom of the list in my copy. I should have realised that was the explanation!

Firstly James it was you who accused me of guestimating to start with not me
No I didn't.
secondly why do you really hate Davis so much.
I've not said anything that implies I hate David Davis. Get in touch with reality and then come back.

Marxist Fraud, nice one Daniel! Never thought about the Marxist bit...

Peter Lilley's not particularly socially liberal. I'd have expected him to go for Fox.

"Peter Lilley's not particularly socially liberal. I'd have expected him to go for Fox."
Except for the fact that he was the first senior Tory politician to recommended that cannabis should be legalised.

Sky News just reported that Philip Dunne and Rob Wilson are backing Cameron.
Posted by: Andy Stidwill | 17 October 2005 at 20:08
The Guardian also reports that Rob Wilson has been claimed by the Cameron camp.

Andrew Turner declares for Fox, (BBC News).
Posted by: Andy Stidwill | 18 October 2005 at 13:10
Do you think it's possible we won't even see a second round of voting, if whoever finishes third is 30 or so behind

"Andrew Turner declares for Fox, (BBC News)."
That's what I call last minute! Will the undeclared Cornerstone MPs follow his example though?
Posted by: Selsdon Man | 18 October 2005 at 13:23
"Do you think it's possible we won't even see a second round of voting, if whoever finishes third is 30 or so behind"
I think that if Davis somehow comes third, he would pull out pretty quickly, leaving Cameron and either Fox or Clarke to go straight through to the members ballot.
Also, if Davis comes 1st or 2nd, but gets less than about 55 votes, he might also pull out and support Fox.

Thats a strange one Andy as I had a list of 21mps for that day(11undecided and 10 Won't say) and none of them was called Michael Lord.
Is this the same James Hellyer who said on the 14th about people guestimating then?
Posted by: Peter | 18 October 2005 at 14:00
The black art of trying to finish a candidate is still looming on this board. Why should Davis back Fox, he is quite clearly closer to Cameron than Fox on most policies?
Posted by: Peter | 18 October 2005 at 14:04
Is this the same James Hellyer who said on the 14th about people guestimating then?
In response to you criticing me for downsizing an estimate after I'd checked a list of MPs.
Check your facts before you bandy accusations about.

Today's Telegraph - John Whittingdale said that he had voted for Fox. Nick Hurd and Sir John Stanley said that they voted for Cameron.
Posted by: Selsdon Man | 19 October 2005 at 12:33
Guardian Online has got Nigel Waterson switching from Clarke to Fox
and Adam Holloway from Davis to Cameron.
Posted by: Dan | 19 October 2005 at 15:21
So you do make a fuss about other people comments then James?
Posted by: Peter | 03 November 2005 at 10:02
Peter,
You are the one who made a fuss about my comments, not vice versa. You moaned that I made an estimate. You then moaned when I adjusted that estimate. It's you who made a fuss.
Grow up, and stop boring me.
