« Praise and a £40,000 pensions job for Two Brains Willetts | Main | David Cameron refocuses his campaign »

James Hellyer

Sir Iqbal say that "The very name Holocaust Memorial Day sounds too exclusive to many young Muslims. It sends out the wrong signals: that the lives of one people are to be remembered more than others. It’s a grievance that extremists are able to exploit."

Sends out the wrong signal? What kind of signal is sent out by senior Muslims comparing the policies of successive Israeli governments in the occupied territories with the systematic slaughter of millions of Jews? Lots of words could be used to describe what has happened in Israel, but genocide is not one of them.

Quite frankly I find Sir Iqbal and MCB offensive.

I agree entirely James. I think that DD's comments are spot on in this case.

I see another of the government's Muslim advisers, Ahmad Thomson, was reported to have blamed the Iraq war on the Jews and Freemasons.

Let's not beat about the bush here. A large number of Muslim "community leaders" are out and out Jew-haters, with repellent opinions.

I can only echo the comments above. These people really do their community no favours at all with comments such as these.
Having said that I'm not at all sure their should be a Holocaust Day at all.

I do feel that our politicians seem to bend over backwards for the 'Muslim Community' and yet when it comes to interviewing said community the response is so often "the government need to pay more attention to us and our problems".

One feels that Christians must only wish they could have such a say in Government. I fully support the rights of Muslims to worship in this country and to play a role in government, but they should do so in equality with other religions and in understanding that this is a Christian nation.

David Davis is right to reject Muslim demands re Holocaust Day.

I disagree with having a Holocaust Memorial Day. We do not need any more over-exposure to the Holocaust. It should be a private thing. Having a day like this will cheapen the whole existence of this dark time. It will just be another day to go to the mall, smoke-up and drink like a bunch of idiots instead of actually remembering the millions that perished. We do not need this holiday, name it something else or have it so it remembers EVERYBODY that lost lives in any war.

To Sean Fear - When I was reporting on the Muslim attitude a month ago you were labelling me as anti-Semitic. This I found to be most distasteful. Now perhaps you might apologise?
