Wat, the issue is that if they are not rumours, like IDS he will find the party impossible to control. IDS had no authority when he called for loyalty as he had been a leading rebel. Similarly the MPs who have seen, at the very least, the scheming nature of some of Davis's lieutenants, are hardly going to listen to him on issues of unity.
