Today's Yorkshire Post suggests that William Hague is opposed to fellow Yorkshire MP David Davis becoming the Tory leader.
The Post's Political Editor, Simon McGee writes that Mr Hague's News of the World article (in which he argued for the reversal of his own democratic reforms*), amounted to a "barely concealed attack" on Mr Davis. Some in the Davis camp think that the review of the leadership election rules is designed* to keep their candidate from winning. Mr Davis is thought to be more popular with grassroots Tories than fellow parliamentarians.
Mr Hague listed some of the likely successors to Michael Howard. Mr McGee: "Malcolm Rifkind, Liam Fox, David Cameron and George Osborne all got a mention in the former Conservative leader's regular column for a Sunday newspaper, but the absence of the MP for Haltemprice and Howden, the bookies' favourite, made his feelings loud and clear."
