On 1st May at 9.59pm we sent all subscribers to ConservativeHome's mailing list our 'call' that Boris would win his battle with Ken Livingstone. Blackberries and iPhones started buzzing and our 'call' was the talk of at least one drinks party of journalists and politicians that was taking place in London last night. Sky News put our prediction to William Hague within fifteen minutes. The 'Conservative Daily' email tells you about big opinion poll news... About who has been selected for top seats.... It tracks Boris' mayoralty. Subscribers to ConservativeHome's mailing list are members of the Tory Party's best-informed community. If you would like to join our mailing list for daily news about the Conservative Party...
There is an 'unsubscribe' option in every email we send so you remain in control of the subscription and we never pass your email address to anyone else.
Perhaps it's just me, but I don't really understand what is meant by the phrase
"We're calling this election for candidate/party X".
Is this an expression we've imported from the USA? If so, why?

ToryJim: It is an import from the US, ToryJim. I'm sorry you don't like it.
A 'call' is more than a prediction. It is a judgement that a certain candidate has won, rather than will, in all likelihood, win.

Thankgoodness this arrogant government is on it's way out. They just can't believe it can they? Well it's wake up time and a big bump down to earth. It would have been the same if Tony Blair had still been in office I feel sure.

Merlin is now a very important issue. How much longer will this data base take for completion. With a possible General Election how can the coonstituency work thru the tasks needed. It has been promised since Bournemouth conference and no one knows when it will be finalised. Our last local election we were back to NCR;s. This with the continual need for funds shows we do not have control when the cost goes into this continuing black hole.It must be resolved or aborted we cannot carry out our campaign plan with out a practical and active data base.We are a top target seat against Lib Dems and in serious need of a functioning MERLIN System. Please update us on the situation.Coming up for 3 years waiting for this is not a good way to organise the info we all need.

Watching the shadow Home Secretary on TV this morning causes me to write, Im sure he is is a clever and wonderful person, but he comes across on TV as another public school tory twit, as does Maude and Spellman. Please David, and elecability. keep these personalities off screen, they do great harm to your teams likeability

Tory Politicians often come across as Public School twits. This does the party a great deal of harm. Please keep the likes od Dominis Green, Angus Maude and Caroline Spellman off the TV Screen

an early task for the incoming tories must be to get back our utilities power, water etc owned by other countries. and who are ripping us off terribly .Pensioners and others will demand it as a priority. The so called regulatory groups are totally useless and must also be replaced
