Congratulations to South Norfolk Conservatives for this YouTube video about their hopes to turn their council into one of the greenest in the country.
Cllr John Fuller, Leader of the Conservative group in South Norfolk issued the following statement:
"South Norfolk Conservatives have three candidates in their twenties and nine under forty. Our radical program will put our environment first in everything we do. With better planning, a focus on cleaner streets, boosting recycling and reducing energy use we’ll put our environment first for today and tomorrow. We want to clean-up South Norfolk so we'll be tough on grime, tough on the causes of grime with our new environmental crimes team that tackles fly-tipping, grafitti and abandoned cars. With our YouTube manifesto launch and the emphasis on new campaign media, we're bringing local politics to the MySpace generation whilst holding true to traditional Conservative principles of value for money and professionalism."
I love that "grime" slogan.

I have family in South Norfolk (Ditchlingham to be precise). They get seperature bins for recyclables and non recyclables. Here in East Cambridgeshire (Conservative), we get no such such things, no one collects our recyclables, in fact we dont even get bins! Libdems in South Norfolk seem a lot more composed on the recycling issue than conservatives in East Cambs, thats for sure.

It's fantastic! How many other YouTube assocs are there out there? You should award a prize for best use of internet in these elections.

Well done South Norfolk! We didn't go as far as YouTube but in Forest Heath (Suffolk) we launched our own manifesto, "Doing the right thing", at the start of the month.
We also did it through our campaign blog site and a parallel press site
Must be something in the air in East Anglia!

I'm broadly enthusiastic about what they are saying, apart from this clanger:
"South Norfolk Conservatives have three candidates in their twenties and nine under forty."
Er, right. OK then. What exactly does this have to do with the price of fish? Isn't age discrimination something we are supposed to be moving away from now?
Those who wish to be ruled exclusively by twentysomethings should note that there is more than one meaning of "green".
Also, those who want to appeal to the "MySpace generation" should realise that this largely consists of people who are nowhere near old enough to vote for you!

With all due respect Richard, I am of the so called 'MySpace' generation and in my twenties. I understand where Cllr John Fuller is coming from in regards to trying to connect with the younger voters as I am staanding myself. I may be 'green' but I have new ideas, new issues and a fresh outlook on modern politics. Only through the support of the 'younger' voter can we have a new influx of ideas and transform our image of old.
