BREAKING: Conservatives beat Labour on popular vote by 38% to 37%

By Tim Montgomerie

The number crunchers at CCHQ have just told me that when you compare the votes cast in places that were contested in 2007 and yesterday the Conservatives were ahead of Labour by 38% to 37% across the whole of Great Britain. The Liberal Democrats trailed on 17%. A poor number for Clegg's party but better than most opinion polls.
