George Osborne puts those making the "lifestyle choice" of living on benefits on notice of impending additional cuts

In an interview with the BBC's Nick Robinson, Chancellor George Osborne has made it clear that further welfare cuts will be included in the forthcoming Comprehensive Spending Review.

He says:

  • The welfare bill is now "completely out of control";
  • 5 mllion people on out of work benfitis is a tragedy and unsustainable;
  • There will in the CSR on October 20th be an estimated £4 billion of welfare cuts addtional to the £11 billion announced in the Budget;
  • The "lifestyle choice" of living on benefits will come to an end.
