Conservatives hit 42% in post-Budget poll - which also gives George Osborne a thumbs-up

Today's Sun carries a post-Budget YouGov poll which puts the parties on the following standings:

Conservatives - 42%
Labour - 34%
Lib Dems - 17%

(Fieldwork was done on June 22 and 23)

Other findings include:

  • 53% think the way the government is cutting spending to reduce the government's deficit is good for the economy (28% say bad)
  • 49% blame the last Labour Government alone for the cuts
  • 50% think the Budget overall was fair (27% say it wasn't)
  • 57% think George Osborne broadly took the right decisions for Britain as a whole in the Budget (23% says the wrong decisions)
