Cameron tells Tory MPs to pay back expenses as instructed by Legg - or stand down

David Cameron blue background Tim has already touched on the Legg letters this morning; but David Cameron has now made a very robust pronouncement: if Conservative MPs refuse to pay back the money, they will not be Conservative candidates at the next election.

He told breakfast television:

"In the end, if people are asked to pay back money and they don't pay it back, in my view they can't... stand as Conservative MPs."

12.30pm Sky News reports on David Cameron's ultimatum to his MPs and Ann Widdecombe's anger at Legg's rewriting of the rules. Any business that behaved like Legg would be up in front of an employment tribunal, says Widdecombe.
