Cameron was impressive this afternoon... but he'll need to do more
David Cameron was angry at this afternoon's press conference. He seemed appalled at what The Telegraph has exposed. He has apologised. He has ordered MPs to repay questionable use of allowances. He has promised transparency for the future, more modest claiming of future allowances and is requiring some wealthier shadow cabinet ministers to cease using the second homes allowance altogether.
These are all welcome steps and a huge contrast with the Prime Minister. Did Cameron say enough? Probably not but Mr Cameron said that this was not his last word. I still believe the worst offenders shouldn't stand at the next election. Otherwise the party risks Martin Bell 'purge' candidates. But today David Cameron was impressive.
