Boris Johnson has responded to the personal attacks made on him by a succession of Labour ministers, notably Hazel Blears:
“I have been subject to some of the most personal attacks we have seen in politics in recent years and I have also been repeatedly accused of proposing cuts in vital services - all made by senior Labour politicians who are desperate to cover up that their candidate has a lack of new ideas.
“My crime manifesto has made it clear that by saving small sums in areas such as the Mayor’s publicity budget, I can not only match what Mayor Livingstone has proposed but go much further. I am clearly demonstrating that I will be a Mayor who provides genuine reassurance for Londoners through extra uniformed officers rather than spin.
“Londoners want to see real action on the issues that matter to them. Only yesterday I was in Sidcup, supporting local people who are trying to save their hospital from Labour’s cost-cutting agenda and tomorrow I will be proposing how to get London moving again with my transport manifesto.
“Mayor Livingstone has clearly had his day in London and the forthcoming election will enable Londoners to choose a Mayor who has fresh ideas for their city and costed plans to deliver real change to their lives.
“Nothing will divert me from my campaign to make London greater still.”
A Plea to all fellow Londoners: Please do not re-elect as our Mayor a man who makes an antisemitic comment and then tries to justify it by a lying smear of a former Chief Rabbi who is no longer alive to rebut the lie.
