Council spending cuts leaving more room for the Big Society
This BBC clip starts off with some dire warning of the consequences of spending cuts in town hall - from someone who we later discover is a trade union official. However the example given of volunteers taking over a Leisure Centre from Barnsley Council is a positive one. Often volunteers running library have not only saved money but also done a better job.
The Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis points out that satisfaction with council services has risen while spending has fallen. There are many explanations. But certainly one of them is the Big Society getting bigger and bigger.
