Hackney heroine joins board for new free school

I am pleased to see that Pauline Pearce, who courageously confronted rioters in Hackney in August has joined the board a free school Hackney New School.

She says she is “chuffed to bits” to be asked to help get the school started:

“At last someone wants to use me for something, to get my hands dirty and get involved. They wanted me to get more ethnic minorities involved, and explain what the benefits are. So I thought, yeah I’ll go with it, have a go, and see if I can make a difference."

During the August riots Mrs Pearce, a jazz singer, said that they made her "ashamed to be a Hackney person."

I hope that if the Hackney New School opens this September that she will feel proud.
