In 1993 the Lib Dems won the Christchurch byelection with a majority of over 16,000. Until 1999 the Lib Dems had more councillors than the Conservatives on the local council. Now the last Lib Dem councillor in the borough Cllr Peter Hall has defected to the Conservatives.
