The battle for Central Bedfordshire

Central Bedfordshire is a unitary authority with all the seats up for election tomorrow. There are 54 Conservatives and 11 Liberal Democrats plus one other. However in terms of candidates this time round the Lib Dems are missing in several wards and Labour are fielding rather more than they are.

The Conservative councillors include Cllr Richard Stay which has a lively award winning blog.

The Council has been encouraging schools to become academies. There are 17 applying to join Also a free school is planned for Potton.

Councillors allowances are being cut this year by 2%. Cuts in services are being kept to a minimum - partly due to volunteers keeping sports clubs and homework club going. The number of senior managers is being cut back.

However I'm afraid the Council Tax is well above national average - £1,535.54 at Band D.
