Conservatives remain in power in Poole

Despite losing overall control of the council on May 5, the Conservatives will continue to run Poole but as a minority administration. After the elections the Conservatives have 21 councillors, the Liberal Democrats 18 and the Poole People's Party three.

The election of councillors from the PPP offers an interesting warning over insensitive planning developments. The group say they accept that more jobs and homes are needed but they want the buildings required reflect tradition - rather than modernist high rises that destroy the beauty and character of the town and thus undermine tourism.

I would suggest the Council asks the Prince's Foudation for the Built Environment for guidance on future regeneration schemes.
