The battle for Telford & Wrekin
Telford & Wrekin Council is a unitary authority with all the seats upo for election on May 5th. It has a minority Conservative administration and have done well in byelections since 2007. The Conservatives have proposed cutting the number of councillors.
The Council has been coping well with required savings by planning ahead. Measures being undertaken include reducing street lighting between midnight and 5am. Most welcome in my view. Frontline services have been protected although there has been a cut in bus subsidies.
There have been some bold regeneration projects. There has been a problem of success with complaints from those areas that haven't yet been regenerated.
Among the candidates are only a small number of Lib Dems with slightly more from UKIP. There are also a smattering of independents.
