Council chief execs given pay rises named and shamed

Article-0-0BA8C02F00000578-391_468x198 The Mail on Sunday reports that Eric Pickles has named and shamed those Council that are actually giving a pay rise to their Chief Executives. They are nearly all Labour or Lib Dem councils.

It is one thing for a Council to fail to cut the pay of their Chief Executive. Often that would be contractually hard without the CEO agreeing to it. So a freeze the norm of for a new recruit to be on a lower salary than the CEO he or she replaced. But for a Council to agree a pay rise to an incumbent - while cutting services and blaming central Government is outrageous. Many of the councils concerned have elections on May 5th...
