South East councillors invited on £350 scrutiny training

I hope that spending transparency will act as some sort of check on all the expensive conferences that councillors and bureaucrats head off to.

Here is a good example from an organisation called South East Employers.

On the 27 & 28 January 2011 South East Employers in partnership with ADSO (Association of Democratic Service Officers) and Warwick University are running an innovative, cutting-edge programme for experienced scrutiny councillors.  This 2 day programme addresses key contemporary challenges facing scrutiny functions from undertaking scrutiny and accountability of place. The role of scrutiny to ensure genuine cost savings and accountability of local council finances. The contribution to budgetary scenario optimisation will also be covered.

This two day programme is part of ‘Scrutiny Solutions’, an innovative development programme of learning activities designed to support local authorities in meeting the challenges facing their overview and scrutiny functions.

Who should attend?

Scrutiny chairs
Scrutiny deputy and vice chairs
Scrutiny spokes people
Scrutiny councillors

My own top tip for "budgetary scenario optimisation" is not to go.
