Lib Dems gained a seat from the Tories but lost a seat to Labour in yesterday's council by-elections

There are two local council by-election results from yesterday, from different ends of the country and with very different outcomes.

The Lib Dems gained a seat from the Conservaitves in Fareham in Hampshire, but suffered a drubbing at the hands of Labour in Warrington.

The full results were:

Fareham West ward, Fareham
Lib Dem - 933
Con - 687
Lab - 124
Ukip - 93
Green - 35
Lib Dem gain from Con on a swing of 26.9%.

Bewsey and Whitecross ward, Warrington
Lab - 1032
Lib Dem - 221
Con - 118
Green - 47
Ind - 33
Lab gain from Lib Dem on a swing of 17.3%
