Independent candidate pips Tory to the post in final council by-election of the year

Yesterday saw just one council by-election, in the Sawbridgeworth ward of East Hertfordshire.

Given the weather and proximity to Christmas, I am not surprised that turnout was a mere 14.9%.

The result was:

Independent - 441
Con - 343
Lab - 99
Lib Dem 95
Ind hold
