LGA Chief Executive is paid £302,840 a year

The Daily Mail reports that the Chief Executive of the Local Government Associationhas given its Chief Executive John Ransford a £70,000 pay rise. This takes his salary to £302,840. That is more than twice that f the Prime Minister.

Local Government Minister Grant Shapps says Ransford should "lead from the front" and take a pay cut. The figure suggested by Shapps of 10% sounds modest.

Baroness Eaton says the LGA is committed to transparency and publish salaries of senior staff. I couldn't find them on the LGA website. Also when are the LGA going to publish their procurement spending on items over £500?

On Monday I mentioned how a dozen councils had given notice to quit the LGA and the body had responded with an economy drive to allow a cut in subs.

It seems to have scope to go a bit further, doesn't it?
