The battle for Weymouth and Portland
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council has a minority Conservative administration. This year the Council Tax is being increased by 2% - the opposition Lib Dems wanted a bigger hike. A third of the seats are up for election on May 6.
In terms of the General Election the interest is in the Dorset South constituency which also include wards from Purbeck Council and one from West Dorset Council. The constituency is Labour held but is our 35th target. Of the 24 relevant wards, 11 were won by the Conservatives when last contested, one was a Lib Dem/Con split, three went to Independents, eight to Lib Dems and one to Labour. But this is yet another example of the Lib Dems being a distant third at the last election. So who is the main enemy? Either way good luck to our candidate Richard Drax.
