The battle for Hastings

Not for the first time the scene of an important battle. Hastings Borough Council has a minority Conservative administration. Half the seats are up for election on May 6.

In terms of the General Election the Hastings and Rye constituency is our 21st target seat. There are 19 relevant wards including three which come under Rother District. When last fought the Conservatives won ten of them. One was a Conservative/Lib Dem split. One went to the Lib Dems and seven went to Labour. So a solid but not overwhelming base. I am pleased to see that Conquest Ward has a good Conservative majority. Good luck to the Conservative candidate for the General Election Amber Rudd.

Local issues where Amber has worked with the Council include cliff erosion - which has risked houses falling into the sea.
