Rotherham Labour councillors insist on first class train travel

Rotherham Labour councillors, who pay themselves exceptionally high allowances, have voted down a proposal that resolved to "discontinue first class rail travel for councillors." The motion had the support of Conservative and independent councillors but was voted down by Labour.

The Labour councillors felt it was important that they should be "able to work on the train" when visiting London for Local Government Association meetings (for which they pick up yet more allowances.) But many of us have found it quite feasible to reseve a standard class seat and get some work done on a train.

Is it that the Labour councillors wish to keep well away from poor people during their jaunts? Rotherham Council's motto is: "Where Everyone Matters." Evidently some more than others.
