Social work whistle blower sues Haringey Council

Nevres Kemal, the social worker whose warnings about the failings of Haringey Council's Children Services Department were ignored by Ministers, is to sue the Council. It was six months after her warnings that Baby P died.

Ms Kemal had applied to go back to work for the Council in response to an advertising campaign for social workers. But despite their high vacancy rate Haringey refused to even interview her.

Their response to her job application does represent a test of whether they are genuinely contrite. A measure of whether their culture has genuinely changed. That test has been failed. Ms Kemal was vindicated over her concerns but so far as the Council is concerned they still hold a grudge against her for raising scandals they wanted to go on ignoring.

Earlier this week Haringey Council was given a "red flag" on the Oneplace website for "significant concerns" re safeguarding children.
