Brighton opposition councillors combine to oppose choice
The Conservative administration in Brighton and Hove is a minority. That means that the Labour, Green and Lib Dem councillors were able to join forces to vote through amendments to the Council city plans.
The Conservative cabinet member for the environment and transport, Cllr Geoffrey Theobald, says that they did this by going through the document and routinely removing the word "choice." For instance reducing car use was to be "a modal shift" rather than a "modal choice" and so on.
I do not know what difference these amendments will make in practice. The Greens, Lib Dems and Labour are triumphant over their victory. But how revealing that what brings them together is deleting the word "choice."
