A disappointing set of by-election results from yesterday
With two losses to Labour and one loss to the Lib Dems, it is difficult to describe the below set of results as anything other than disappointing.

The first preference votes were cast as followws:

Lab - 626 (12.9%, -6.4)
After redstributions, the LD candidate was elected for the vacancy created by the resignation of a Conservative, although due to the PR electoral system used, it cannot really be described as a gain.

Andrew Fulton, Chairman of the Party in Scotland, commented: “We had an excellent candidate and a strong team effort which resulted in a 9% swing to us, which first past the post in a Liberal Democrat seat at a general election gives encouragement that Mark Nolan has every chance of unseating the Liberal Democrat incumbent Jo Swinson.”
