Mass deselection of Labour councillors in Enfield and Waltham Forest

The cull of sitting Labour councillors in London via deselection on a massive scale continues apace. The process in Waltham Forest is not complete but one deselected Labour councillor, Cllr Milton Martin, has defected to the Lib Dems as a result. According to a local report: "Cllr Anna Mbachu was also ditched without explanation, as well as Cllrs Shameem Highfield, Tarsem Bhogal and Elisabeth Davies. A Labour insider claimed the deselections were made because of councillors' association with former council leader Clyde Loakes."

There have also been mass deselections in Enfield with allegations of racism being thrown around and the Labour Group leader Cllr Jeff Rodin standing down, officially on grounds of age. Cllr Denise Headley, a black Labour councillor in the borough is among those deselected - prompting complaints from Operation Black Vote.
