East Lothian Lib Dems in disarray

Cllr Cameron Rose, a Conservative councillor on Edinburgh City Council, reports.

Last week Lib Dem Cllr Stuart Currie stood down as leader of his group on East Lothian Council.  Believed to be on holiday he is understood to be reconsidering his membership of the Lib Dems. The reported reason is his dissatisfaction with involvement of senior Lib Dems in the expenses scandal which has hit Westminster. The story can be found here in the Edinburgh Evening News.

But now the local East Lothian Courier reports that his wife, Cllr Ruth Currie is also equivocal about her position with the Liberal Democrats.

The Lib Dems are in coalition with the SNP and Stuart Currie is Deputy Leader of the Council - with his wife as a cabinet member.

The East Lothian Courier considers crossing the floor to the SNP could be an option for both.
