Do we need eco-towns?

My instinct is that if Prince Charles is in charge of building an eco-town it would probabbly be rather good while if Gordon Brown is doing it (in association with the Co-op) then it probably won't be.

Ed West, writing in his Daily Telegraph blog, says people would generally prefer to stay in cities than "move to the middle of nowhere." But West says that leave cities in desperation because of crime. His solution to make remaining in cities attractive? "It means police daily harassing teenage gangs, rounding up junkies, alcoholics and prostitutes, and throwing out council tenants who misbehave. It requires people not to misbehave on buses, play unsociably loud music in their flats or steal bikes. It requires the British to start behaving like the Japanese."
