Victory for tennis fans over Merton Council

Are none of our traditions sacred? For as long as I can remember tennis fans have been camping out overnight to get into Wimbledon. To avoid the pavement getting blocked in recent years the queue has formed in the adjoining park. But this year officers from Merton Council told the fans to take down heir tents and leave on "health and safety grounds." The fans stood their ground and the All England Tennis Club intervened on their behalf. As a result Merton Council backed off.
