Former Labour Council leader quits

Two Labour councillors in Blaenau Gwent have quit the Party to become independents. Cllr John Hopkins, a former Council leader, and Cllr David Lyn Elias announced their decision on Saturday in protest over the planned closure of a local school.

The Labour Party have been in trouble in the area ever since a candidate was imposed in 2005 via an all women shortlist.
