Is Google Street View a useful new tool for councillors?

GoogleMaps There has been much criticism of Google Street View on grounds of privacy. But a colleague has emailed to suggest it could be a great help for councillors going about their work. For example those on Planning Committees considering the merits of applications for roof extensions.
