Colchester Lib Dem councillors face "Wanted" posters for "crimes against shrubs"
A backlash against a decision by Colchester Council, a minority Lib Dem administration, to save maintenance costs by turfing over roadside flower beds.
Mystery angry residents have put up posters around the town saying: "Wanted: For crimes against shrubs" with pictures of Cllr Martin Hunt and Cllr Theressa Higgins, the two Lib Dem councillors held responsible. But local Conservatives have denied any involvement and said the entire Council administration is to blame not just the two councillors. Cllr Higgins has complained the police, which seems a bit over the top.
Conservatives proposed freezing the Council Tax in Colchester, rather than the Lib Dem decision to put it up by 2.76%. But the Conservatives wanted to find money to save the flower beds by proposing other savings including freezing councillor allowances.
