Exodus from LGA gets under way

After Bromley Council's decision to quit the Local Government Association some years ago the LGA now faces the prospect of an exodus from London Councils. Barnet has written to the LGA giving  notice. Kingston gave notice last year - their departure will come into effect from April. While Sutton includes leaving the LGA in their budget proposals.

A number of other Councils are actively reviewing their membership at the moment. Reasons include the concern to avoid wasting money on the subscription of around £50,000 a year and outrage at the stance taken by the LGA over the Baby P scandal.
