Portsmouth Tory councillor resigns

Portsmouth councillor Lee Hunt has resigned from the Conservative Group. He says he was made to feel unwelcome because he refused to support the Conservative Parliamentary candidate, Flick Drummond. He says Flick Drummond isn't local enough - but she and her family moved to Portsmouth nearly a year ago.

What I find odd about this story is that Cllr Hunt wasn't kicked out. I would have thought it would be a basic requirement of Conservative councillors to support whoever is properly selected as their Parliamentary candidate. It's one thing to privately seek deselection if there is some valid objection (which there doesn't seem to be in this case anyway.) But Cllr Hunt seems to have been encouraging people not to vote for a Conservative candidate while imagining he could continue as a Conservative councillor.
