Haringey Council leader and cabinet member resign over Baby P
The leader of Haringey Council, George Meehan and the Cabinet Member for Children, Liz Santry, have resigned over the handling of the case of Baby P.
Sharon Shoesmith, the Director of Children's Services in the London Borough, has been removed from that post with immediate effect.
These departures come on the delivery of a critical report to Children's Secretary Ed Balls, which was ordered two weeks ago, following David Cameron's questions on the matter at Prime Minister's Questions.
Ed Balls has used his powers to appoint a new management team to run children's services at Haringey.
He said that whether or not Sharon Shoesmith gets a pay-off is a matter for Haringey Council, although he said he would be "astonished" if a decision were made to make such an award.
More soon.
