Stoke-on Trent scraps elected Mayor

24dash.com reports:

Stoke on Trent is to lose its elected mayor after a referendum result declared today.

Voting was 21,231 to 14,592 to replace the post with a council leader and Cabinet, in line with most other authorities.

Stoke's Mayor, Labour's Mark Meredith will serve out the rest of his term until next spring.

This is the first time in Britain that voters have decided to scrap the post of elected mayor. There are now 12 left in England, including London's.
