Labour are deemed as incompetent and untrustworthy now as John Major's Government was prior to the 1997 general election
Political Betting has this afternoon highlighted new research by Jane Green and Will Jennings of Manchester University looking at a measure of "macro-competence" for successive governments over the last sixty years.
Using a "comprehensive dataset of policy questions about trust, competence, and handling, obtained from recorded opinion polls and surveys since the 1950s", they have established that the public attitude to the current Labour Government is now just as - if not slightly more - negative than it was towards John Major's administration before the 1997 general election.
Their research is illustrated by the graph below (click to enlarge).
