The election starts tomorrow. Conservative candidates across the country are now in their final push. Over the next 31 days, many of them have the tough job of ousting
Liberal Democrat MPs.
We've previously described Liberal Democrats as the bindweed of politics - once they've invaded territory they are very hard to displace. The Lib Dems have also taken on a more strategic significance.
A vote for them is now Labour's best hope of clinging to power. Vince Cable's left-leaning student politics at the Chancellors' debate did nothing to change that.
A hung parliament would be a disaster for Britain at a time when it is crying out for strong leadership. David Cameron himself made this very clear yesterday:
"We are fighting for an overall majority, we think that would be best for
Britain. We think a hung parliament would be damaging, the uncertainty would
be bad for Britain. We need a decisive government that can take long-term decisions. That is
what we want to deliver."
Every pound and every leaflet could make a real difference not only to the local area, but to the country.
That's why, from today, we will be using the online fundraising tools on MyConservatives to raise £1,000 for candidates who have a chance of defeating an incumbent LibDem MP. Your generosity will determine how many candidates we help.
Since announcing our intention to launch this campaign a number of you have sent in nominations for the candidates we should support first. Do email us if you have a suggestion.
The first candidate is Philippa Stroud. The Director of the Centre for Social Justice has to convert just under 3,000 votes to win Sutton and Cheam for the Conservatives. Please use the donation widget below to make your contribution - however large or small. Thank you.
You can still donate to Phillippa if you wish but £1,110 was banked by 4.45pm today and we're hoping to raise £1,000 LibDem-beating packets for as many candidates as possible so please click here to help our next candidate.
