After recent selections in the other two Newcastle upon Tyne seats, Newcastle Central Conservatives have now chosen 50-year-old Nick Holder to stand as their candidate at the general election.
He said on his selection:
“I am very pleased that the members of the Newcastle Conservative Party have chosen me as their General Election candidate. The people of Newcastle have been let down by the Labour Party nationally and at a local level by the Liberal Democrats, who are now starting to fight amongst themselves. The only party that is willing and able to deliver change for our country is the Conservative Party.”
Newcastle Central is held by Jim Cousins for Labour, but he is standing down at the general election. His successor as Labour candidate will have a notional majority of around 8,000 over the Liberal Democrats, with the Conservatives starting in third place.
