Rugby Conservatives have announced that three A-listers will contest the Rugby constituency in an open primary selection:
- Mark Pawsey
- Maggie Punyer
- Samantha George.
This seat will have a projected Tory majority of 174.
Jeremy Wright, the current Conservative MP for Rugby and Kenilworth, has been adopted for the new seat of Kenilworth and Southam (projected majority 8,991). He made the following statement on the matter:
“The Boundary Commission’s changes do not allow me to stand again for the Rugby & Kenilworth Constituency at the next election as it will not exist. Therefore I had to make a choice as to which part of my current seat I will contest. I feel it right to make that choice public so that everyone knows my position well in advance of the next General Election. I want to stress however, that I will continue to work just as hard for my constituents in Rugby and I will remain their MP until the next election. I remain committed to dealing with the issues and concerns affecting all my constituents. No Member of Parliament has the right to take re-election for granted and at the last election I promised to be a strong voice for the people of Rugby and Kenilworth, which I will be until my term of office ends.”
