We never clocked the selection in the second half of 2009 of the candidates for the three Hull seats, all of which are currently represented by Labour MPs:
- Hull East - The candidate in the seat being vacated by former Deputy PM John Prescott will be Christine McKay, who has spent most of her life in the Hull area and is a health scientist. Prescott leaves a notional majority of 11,740 over the Lib Dems, with the Conservatives starting on 13.0% of the vote.
- Hull North - Hull-born entrepreneur, former chairman of Hull's 'Women in Business' and deputy chairman of Haltemprice and Howden Conservatives, Victoria Aitken will take on Diana Johnson, who defends a notional majority of 7,384 over the Lib Dems. The Conservatives start with 13.3% of the vote.
- Hull West and Hessle - Home Secretary Alan Johnson will be challenged by Hull-raised and educated Gary Shores, who is currently an East Riding councillor. Johnson has a notional 9,403 majority over the Lib Dems, narrowly ahead of the third-placed Conservatives who start on 20.7% of the vote.
