Nick Clegg will be under enormous pressure from Liberal Democrat members and voters to keep Brown in power. That's the clear and consistent message of opinion polling.
The LibDem leader knows that he can't rule out a coalition with Labour or he'll risk losing a large number of his left-leaning voters.
So, in the literature of the Tory candidate for Blaydon, I wonder if there's an important idea for the national campaign. Our candidate Glenn Hall has signed a pledge that he won't keep Brown in power and challenged his LibDem opponent to do the same. The LibDem won't sign it, of course:
Mr Hall's leaflet also includes the clear message that the election is a two horse race:
The Tories won just 8% of the vote in the Blaydon seat at the last election but the quality of Glenn Hall's literature is very high. Download a PDF.
