It's always been clear to me that Zac Goldsmith is one of the most independent-minded Conservative candidates fighting this general election.
And today the candidate for Richmond Park has provided yet more evidence that this is the case.
He has previously accused the Liberal Democrats in the seat of dirty tricks (see here and here) and has come up with a robust way of demonstrating his personal commitment to honesty and integrity if he is elected.
He has told a hustings meeting organised by his local Chamber of Commerce that he would quit as an MP and cause a by-election if a Cameron Government U-turned on certain promises being made during the campaign, as Paul Waugh blogs:
"There are various things I have said in this campaign with absolute certainty. I said there will be no Heathrow expansion under our Government, there will be no charges for parking in Richmond Park and Kingston Hospital will be safe. If any of those promises are broken I will trigger a by-election and allow people to penalise my party."
