Sky News are reporting that former defence secretary Geoff Hoon will not be contesting his Ashfield constiuency ast the general election.
Thius will be a welcome boost to Gary Hickton, who was selected in December to contest the seat for the Conservatives for the seat take on former Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon,
The notional Labour majority is 10,370 over the Conservatives in a seat which was won by the Conservatives at a 1977 by-election but reverted to Labour at the 1979 general election.
