This statement has just been published by Esher & Walton:
"On behalf of all the EWCA Candidate Selection Committee I wish to thank every person who submitted their CV. We received a huge number of CV’s for consideration and the standard was extremely high with candidates applying from all walks of life, from all over the country, with varied experiences and successes making our final choice of candidates extremely hard.
We had a number of local candidates apply and we are especially grateful for their interest in representing the Constituency and we look forward to working actively with these party members in the future.
We believe the final six candidates represent the best of the best and the quality of their applications and the personal career histories, both inside and outside of politics, will ensure that whoever is chosen at our Open Primary will make an excellent Conservative PPC and hopefully our future Constituency MP. We would like to wish all those candidates who did not get short listed every success for the future.
The six candidates going through to the Executive Council meeting on Wednesday 28th October are:
- Rob Butler
- Margaret Doyle
- Sajid Javid
- Jo-Anne Nadler
- Dominic Raab
- Elizabeth Truss.*"
Retiring MP Ian Taylor told ConHome that he was "delighted that the open primary will have a strong and qualified group which should enable a lively contest to become Conservative Candidate." He continued: "Although very varied in their background and experience, any of the 6 will be a pleasure to work with in the run up to the election – and a credit to the constituency if they are elected thereafter."
