After Thelma Matuk controversially stood down as candidate for Walsall South in June (she said she needed to focus on her business for four to eight weeks, but intended seeking a new seat in the autumn), a new candidate for the constituency has been selected in the form of Richard Hunt.
Richard is a 51-year-old single father to two teenage daughters who is Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer of a multinational manufacturing company. He contested Barrow and Furness in 1997 and was a district councillor in Hart (in Hampshire) between 2000 and 2006.
Walsall South has been held for Labour since 1974 by Bruce George, who will defend a notional majority of 7,910 over the Conservatives: Richard requires a swing of 10.4% to take the seat.
